Review | Biore UV Anti-Pollution Body Care Serum (Intensive White)

Biore UV Anti-Pollution Body Care Serum Featured

I have been contemplating on getting this for quite a while about 2 months back.

I eventually got it only because I really wanted to start using sunscreen on my body too and here it is!

Anyway, the reason why I didn’t want to get this at first was due to the alcohol. But I realised that it’s kind of difficult to leave alcohol out if you want a non-sticky formula.

Oh and the main reason why I started using sunscreen for my body – I’ve been using KraveBeauty’s Kale-lalu-yAHA (few drops) with my body lotion at night to help exfoliate and smooth the dry skin on my legs.

At the same time, that combination makes my body lotion absorb quicker which I love because the humidity in Singapore really makes it hard for my body lotions to absorb without feeling tacky.

And yeah, using AHA on my legs makes it sensitive to sunlight too so sun protection there is definitely important!

Enough rambling from me, here’s the review hehe.

Water (Aqua), Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Alcohol, Titanium Dioxide, Isopropyl Palmitate, Dimethicone, Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine, Butylene Glycol, Niacinamide, Dextrin Palmitate, Propanediol, Sorbitan Stearate, Aluminum Hydroxide, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance (Parfum), Polysilicone-9, Stearic Acid, Aminomethyl Propanol, Potassium Hydroxide, Disodium EDTA, PEG-400, Lauryl Methacrylate/Sodium Methacrylate Crosspolymer, Isoceteth-20, BHT, Arginine, Cetyl Alcohol, Citrus Junos Peel Extract, Agar, Phenoxyethanol

It’s weird that the ingredients listed on the website is a little different from what is printed on this product’s packaging. But I’ve copied the one on this product instead of relying on the website’s information.

From the ingredients, I can see that it is a hybrid sunscreen for the body. It has Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate (chemical) and its main use is to absorb UVB rays from the sun.

It also has Titanium Dioxide which is usually in physical sunscreens and may give out a slight white cast. Its main use is to reflect UVB rays and short UVA rays, but isn’t sufficient for longer UVA rays.

Zinc Oxide usually helps to protect against UVA rays better than Titanium Dioxide alone, so if you’re looking for a physical sunscreen, make sure these two ingredients are included for a broad spectrum protection!

(Zinc Oxide isn’t included in this product, do take note)

If you were to use this product btw, I think it’d better for daily use instead of a water sports kind of day where you face the sun a lot.

Look & Feel

Click to open in a new tab.

On the back of the product, it tells you the 3-in-1 things that this Body Care Serum can do for you.

Another claim was that it promises fairer skin in 14 days. I’ll talk more on that later.

It comes in a striking pink and orange tube, which is pretty hygienic, but I’d prefer a pump.

As the sunscreen is a little runny, some of it may get around the opening and you’ll have to clean it up a little.

Oh yes! There are other types instead of the Intensive White one. I think I saw one that was Extra Moist? And a Refresh Bright one. If you’re interested in them, you can check them out!

Application

Biore UV Anti-Pollution Body Care Serum Application
There is barely any white cast on the right side of my hand. (ignore my veiny hands)

Just like what the packaging says, “Non-sticky, Water-resistant”.

It is really non-sticky after you rub it into your skin properly. Water-resistant or not, I cannot attest to it as it absorbs nicely that you can’t really feel that it’s there?

For the white cast, there is almost none. Although I do notice that when you first apply it, and sunlight shines on your skin, you’ll be able to see a very translucent white cast. Almost like a barrier or ‘anti-pollution shield’ as they stated.

Though I honestly think that only you would notice that as it isn’t that noticeable.

Even though it is supposed to be a body care SERUM with SPF, it isn’t hydrating to the point where you feel like you’re applying body lotion.

It is definitely lighter than a cream, and super easy to spread.

The smell of this is a little like baby powder with a citrus scent (probably due to the Yuzu Orange). I can handle it but my boyfriend thinks it’s a little too strong when I’m near him and yeah, doesn’t really like the smell too.

For me, it’s the only sunscreen for body with moisturising properties that I know of, so I’m willing to trade that smell for sun protection for my body.

Now, whether or not that ‘Fairer skin in 14 days‘ lives up to its claim…

I think it actually does (though not in 14 days)! You know those slipper marks?

I wear Birkenstock-inspired slippers/sandals (lol) and they do leave me with a 3-4cm rectangle of darker patch on my feet – if you know what I mean.

After using this for about a month (I don’t use it when I’m staying home though hehe), that patch on my feet doesn’t look as dark anymore.

Not sure if it’s because I’ve been using sunscreen on my body more diligently, hence it didn’t get darker.

Or that the ingredients in this helped make it fairer.

Whatever it is, it did lighten that patch and I’m happy about it.

One other thing about this is that, it holds 150 ml. Tbh, it is actually quite a lot.

About 3 times the amount of sunscreens sold for usage on our face is around 50ml. However, I do use a lot for my arms and legs that I feel like in another month or so, I’m gonna be finishing this already.

If you ask me to choose this or the Make P:rem Blue Ray Sun Fluid (for face and body) though, I’d choose this for my body.

The Make P:rem one makes my skin feel a little dry and I can feel it being on my skin too (literally).

Whereas the Biore one doesn’t.

If you’re interested, I remove this just with a body soap/shower foam and it does the job. I had to use Micellar water for the Make P:rem one because I could still feel it after bathing.

Yes

  • Pretty affordable for 150 ml
  • Skin got slightly fairer (noticeable for previously dark areas/patches)
  • Great for all skin types (though the skin other than our faces is usually dry for everyone)
  • Tube packaging, easy to squeeze out
  • Ease of availability
  • No white cast
  • Lightweight
  • Non-sticky
  • Water-resistant
  • Good for daily use
  • Has niacinamide as well (if allergic, this is a con for you)

No

  • Smell may not be nice to some people
  • Has alcohol in it
  • Hybrid sunscreen, you may react to some ingredients if you are allergic to it (please check ingredients list)
  • Amount in the tube could be more than 150 ml

Am I Repurchasing?

I could be if I cannot find a substitute for it. I’m not exactly loving this at the moment because I still don’t really like the ingredients in this product. This is just my current suncare product for my body and I need it so haha, yup!
