What’s up! As the title says, this is a review for the FENTY BEAUTY Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation that was released in September 2017 here in Singapore’s Sephora.

Before this, I was using my Tarte Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Airbrush Foundation (reviewed) that was a loose powder type foundation. After using BareMinerals and my Tarte loose powder foundation for 2 years plus, I decided to hop back onto foundations that I once found thick and heavy on my skin. Why? I have no idea but one thing that I know for sure is that, I do really like this foundation.

Btw, if you’re interested in my thoughts on my BareMinerals vs Tarte Loose Powder foundation, I have a short comparison in my tarte review on which I preferred. Okay, now that the intro is done, let’s get straight to it.

Look & Feel

Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr Foundation Product

Right off the bat, I must say that the design feels really lovely. It looks like frosted glass and has a kind of weight to it. Comes with a pump, though it isn’t very easy to control the amount that you pump out. I usually do a half pump anyway as this foundation dries up pretty quickly on my palm.

TIP: I put the product on the bottom part of my palm before applying it onto my face, as I feel it absorbs less fast compared to the top of my hands.

Overall, it feels sturdy and very high quality.

Application

Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr Foundation Application

(L to R: Blended, 3 swipes, freshly pumped)

I’m a NC 20-25 for a gauge, though I usually pick Neutral tones, I found the 140 Light Warm to be a better match this time.

As soon as you apply this onto your face, it is best to blend it as fast as you can. This foundation dries up pretty quickly and when it starts to set in the first 15-30 seconds, it definitely gets harder to blend.

So do it quick. I also suggest not to dot the foundation on your face before you blend it due to reason I just stated.

Oh and do make sure to get the right shade as they all seem to be 1-2 shades darker after sitting on your skin for awhile. I took 4-5 visits to Sephora just to double check the colour on my neck and jawline before purchasing it online. My boyfriend got so tired of accompanying me HAHA.

But observation from another party definitely helps you better.

For me, I do a half pump on the fatty part of my palm at the bottom, take my Sigma F80 Flat Kabuki Brush and dab lightly onto the foundation just to get the bare minimum on the ends of the bristles. Honestly, you don’t need a lot as a little goes a long way.

If you need more, pump a little and work your way up to the amount of coverage you need. Though I don’t think this foundation does that well in layering due to it drying quickly.

If you need extra coverage, either use a concealer under or over foundation.

I begin from the inner cheeks and blend to the hairline, whatever remains on my brush, I give a light sweep on my nose to cover my pores and blackheads.

I must say it does a very good job at that. Applying too much foundation on the nose might actually accentuate the dryness/pores on your nose, so I always make sure to apply as little as I can on my nose.

In total, I use 1 full pump on a light makeup day and when I want to cover more and look more flawless, I use up to 1.5 pumps. I’d rate the coverage as medium to full coverage. It is very lightweight compared to foundations I’ve used in the past and I like that. Although it doesn’t cover my pimple or red spots completely, it makes them less obvious.

I also recommend you to use a base that isn’t too mattifying, instead use one that’s slightly tacky as it helps the foundation apply more seamlessly.

I tried it with a pore primer and the results didn’t look pretty around my nose. Now, I just use my Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream (Mild) as a base before applying this foundation and I love the results.

One more thing, do not apply too much powder if you’re the oilier skin type. Since its finish is semi-matte, I realised that applying too much setting powder over it can make your oils come out a little more.

If you’re using it in the night, you can skip the sunblock and use a light moisturiser or a moisturiser that suits your skin (oily, dry or combination).

Yes

  • Long-lasting (up to 12 hours wear on me, did not look too shabby at the end of the day)
  • Shade fits me (at least a 95% fit, 40 shades to choose from)
  • Fragrant smells fine, not too artificial
  • Good oil control up to 3-4 hours before slight oiliness peeks through (T-zone only and with setting powder)
  • Doesn’t break me out
  • Affordable for the quality and brand (in my opinion)
  • Dries down to a semi-matte

No

  • Glass bottle, may be dangerous when travelling
  • Pump doesn’t work very well
  • Dries a bit too quick for my liking but nothing I can’t accommodate to
  • No SPF, even then it somehow produces a slight white cast in camera (nothing too white)
  • Tricky to find the exact match as shades dry 1-2 shades darker after swatching)

Am I Repurchasing?

It certainly isn’t at a holy grail stage for me now. I would go back to it only if I can’t find something to replace it with.

Overall Rating:

4 out of 5

What are your thoughts? Would you repurchase? Recommend me your favourite oily skin-friendly foundation!
