Review | Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream (No Sebum)

Hello lovelies!

Today I will be reviewing the innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream (No Sebum). I have a review of the Mild version up on this blog as well.

Let’s start by saying that I really wasn’t into this product till I found out how to make use of it. Hmm, that sounds funny, doesn’t it?

You might be thinking, “It’s just a sunscreen, don’t you just pat it on your face?”

Well, yes. Except just a warning to you that this has a slight white cast! If you apply too much, your face might even turn out looking very ghostly. Not something you’d want unless you’re already as fair as this product, of course.

Let’s begin with the basic facts of the product!

What: Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream (No Sebum) SPF 35 PA+++

Price: S$19

Weight: 50ml

Period-After-Opening: 12 months

CYCLOPENTASILOXANE, WATER, ZINC OXIDE (CI 77947), TITANIUM DIOXIDE (CI 77891), METHYL METHACRYLATE CROSSPOLYMER, PEG-10 DIMETHICONE, ISODECYL NEOPENTANOATE, SILICA, MICA (CI 77019), DIPROPYLENE GLYCOL, DISTEARDIMONIUM HECTORITE, GLYCERIN, CYCLOMETHICONE, MAGNESIUM SULFATE, ALUMINUM HYDROXIDE, ALUMINUM STEARATE, VINYL DIMETHICONE/METHICONE SILSESQUIOXANE CROSSPOLYMER, POLYMETHYL METHACRYLATE, METHICONE, STEAROYL INULIN, PHENOXYETHANOL, SORBITAN SESQUIOLEATE, FRAGRANCE, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, PROPANEDIOL, MICROCRYSTALLINE CELLULOSE, DIMETHICONE/VINYL DIMETHICONE CROSSPOLYMER, GLYCERYL CAPRYLATE, POLYGLYCERYL-6 POLYRICINOLEATE, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, DIMETHICONE, IRON OXIDES (CI 77492), TRIETHOXYCAPRYLYLSILANE, PORTULACA OLERACEA EXTRACT, CENTELLA ASIATICA EXTRACT, CELLULOSE GUM, IRON OXIDES (CI 77491), IRON OXIDES (CI 77499), HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, HAMAMELIS VIRGINIANA (WITCH HAZEL) LEAF EXTRACT, OPUNTIA COCCINELLIFERA FRUIT EXTRACT, CAMELLIA JAPONICA LEAF EXTRACT, ORCHID EXTRACT, CITRUS UNSHIU PEEL EXTRACT, CITRIC ACID, POTASSIUM SORBATE, SODIUM BENZOATE

What innisfree claims it doesn’t have:

5-Free system : Free of animal ingredients, mineral oils, synthetic fragrances, tar dye and talc

Hooray, I’ve found both Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide within the first 5 ingredients of the list. Both of them together helps protect against both UV A and UV B rays. If you notice a sunscreen that only has Titanium Dioxide, do note that it only protects partial of the UV A rays that causes premature aging though it does prevent you from getting a slight sunburn at most.

PS:

SPF 35 = 350 mins of protection under the sun. (35 x 10min) from UV B rays (SPF = Sun Protection Factor)

PA+++ = the more +, the higher level of protection from UV A rays (PA = Protective Grade of UV A)

First off, comparing it with the Mild version, the No Sebum one has an extra + in it’s PA+++, presumably meaning that it has a higher level of protection from the UV A rays. This is a good thing but like all sunscreens, no higher amount of SPF or more pluses on it’s PA would work effectively if you’re not apply adequately on your face. Therefore, do take note that just because it’s SPF 50 or even PA++++ does not mean you can apply lesser on your face as compared to one with SPF 35 PA++.

Did You Know?

The amount of sunscreen you should be applying (for your face) is a ¼ of a teaspoon or less? Depending on your face size and shape, you may need lesser than what people always say. Btw, ¼ is actually from a calculation on the surface area of men from the 95th percentile. So if you’re female, the chances of you having a slightly smaller face is higher. Hence, a lesser amount! 🙂

Okay enough of the technical stuff! We’ll go on to my review now.

Look & Feel

Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream No Sebum Product

It looks similar to the Mild version, except that it comes in a matte bottle of 50ml. Packaging is simple and straight to the point. I like the nozzle of the tube, as it helps me apply easily onto my fingers before patting it into my face. The No Sebum sunscreen is also a physical one! The good thing about physical sunscreens are that they work the moment they are applied whereas chemical sunscreens will only properly work roughly 20-30 minutes beforehand. Do take note!

Also, remember to keep your innisfree skincare tubes/bottles if you have an innisfree store available in your country! If you’re a member, you can recycle the bottle and reduce waste (and even get S$1 worth of points to deduct on your next purchase for each skincare item). To be honest, I really want to help reduce waste as much as I can so it’d be good if other companies can follow suit. If I’m not wrong, South Korea’s Etude House and Aritaum also has this alongside with their innisfree outlets.

Application

Innisfree Daily UV Protection Cream No Sebum Application

The texture of this is a tad bit thicker than the Mild version. Think of the Mild version as a lotion type sunscreen, and this as a cream type moisturiser. Although this is SLIGHTLY thicker, it was still very easy to blend. However, once it sets (~3-5min), and if you notice a spot that is not blended properly, it might be a little tough to blend it then. As this dries down to a matte finish, like as though you applied powder on top, do make sure that you do not apply on dry skin or even on top of a matte primer.

Moisturise beforehand to prevent it from accentuating dry spots on your face, a light moisturiser would do if you have oily skin. However, try it for yourself so you know the degree of moisture you need before you apply this sunscreen. You might need a heavier moisturiser if you have dry / combination oily skin. (But I don’t think the no sebum line is for dry skin people anyway)

The most important thing here is that It comes out as a pink-based lotion-looking sunscreen. When you apply it onto your face, it will have a tone-up / brightening effect and makes your skin lighter on places you put it. Be careful not to apply too much on one area as it will look obvious no matter how much you try to blend it.

Oh and I do not recommend you to use it under makeup. It doesn’t wear off very nicely haha. It can ruin the way your foundation sits on top of your face due to how matte it is. If you do not like it as a face sunscreen, you can use it as a body sunscreen too!

As I have combination skin, I realised I prefer using this together with the Mild version. For e.g, I use this on my T-zone (forehead, butterfly area – cheeks & nose) as those are my oilier areas whereas the Mild one on my chin and the rest of the U-zone. Making the centre of my face more bright and the overall more natural as the mild one has no white cast, acting as a natural ‘contour’. Haha if you get what I mean.

One other thing which I do not mind, is the smell of this sunscreen. It has a moderately strong sunblock smell if you are familiar with it. It goes away after a few minutes though.

The gripe that I have about this sunscreen is that it doesn’t feel lightweight at the beginning, but about 2-3 hours later, it mixes with the oil I produce and it feels a bit better. Overall, I still feel like I’m wearing something on my face.

Yes

  • Easy to blend (but also dries quicker than normal sunscreens)
  • Brightening effect
  • Preferable for oilier skin types
  • Good for daily use (SPF 35)
  • Non-sticky
  • Convenient to purchase
  • Portable to bring around
  • Keeps oil at bay for about 5 hours
  • Lightweight after 2-3 hours
  • Doesn’t break me out when I cleanse my face thoroughly
  • Contains both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide (broader spectrum of UV A & UV B protection)

No

  • Can be too drying for dry skins
  • Was a bit drying over makeup as well (as someone with combination oily skin)
  • Obvious white cast when used all over the face (as opposed to how I use this product, see Application)
  • Will not suit deeper skin colours of maybe NC25 & above
  • Can clog pores if not removed properly

Am I Repurchasing?

Unfortunately not. As much as this helps in brightening my skin tone whenever I use it, I initially bought it to use alone on days where I do not want to apply foundation but still look more even toned. I was hoping that this would look natural but I bought this on a whim during my birthday month as the first purchase of the month was worth 2x the points. Now, I would just have to make do with the method I mentioned above to finish this bottle up before I recycle it at innisfree.

Overall Rating:

2.5 out of 5
