Review | Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam

Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam Featured

When I was at the Innisfree store in Korea, (or rather storeS, because I’m always going into one whenever I see it lol) they were having a 1+1 sale for some cleansers.

And this was one of them!

I bought this towards the end of my Korea trip because I was contemplating if I should get the normal oil cleansers or try this one out.

The name got me and I thought, “Hey, maybe this could be THE ‘oil’ cleanser for me”.

If you didn’t get that, it’s fine.

What I mean was, I have been on a search to find a suitable oil cleanser because I wanted to remove my makeup in the shower without having to remove it in my dressing room with my Micellar Water and Lip and Eye makeup remover.

I don’t have a medicine cabinet, and I don’t really like putting those products in my toilet anyway.

And I was feeling lazy haha, and this promised to clean so thoroughly that you don’t need to DOUBLE cleanse!

Is it that good? We’ll see!

What: Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam

Price: 15,000 won (S$24 in Singapore)

Weight: 150 ml

Period-After-Opening: 12 months

From the Innisfree Singapore website,

1. Primary and secondary cleansing by a mild gel-to-foam at once for minimized irritation to skin
3.5 times more enriched with 16 amino acids than normal green tea, Beauty Green Tea is combined with saponin-enriched green tea root extract to keep the skin hydrated even after cleansing.

2. One-step cleanser for a double cleansing effect!
This single step cleansing melts makeup with moisture gel then foams for gentle purification, reducing repeated cleansing processes and ensuing stress to the skin.

3. Soft, non-foaming gel texture
Non-foaming and moisture-filled gel cleanser keeps the skin feeling hydrated after cleansing.

WATER / AQUA / EAU, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, POTASSIUM COCOYL GLYCINATE, SODIUM METHYL COCOYL TAURATE, GLYCERIN, LAURYL HYDROXYSULTAINE, LAURYL GLUCOSIDE, ACRYLATES/BEHENETH-25 METHACRYLATE COPOLYMER, POLYGLYCERYL-6 CAPRYLATE, PROPANEDIOL, SODIUM CHLORIDE, 1,2-HEXANEDIOL, CAPRYLYL/CAPRYL GLUCOSIDE, FRAGRANCE / PARFUM, POTASSIUM HYDROXIDE, DISODIUM EDTA, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, TETRASODIUM EDTA, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF WATER, CAMELLIA SINENSIS LEAF EXTRACT, ALCOHOL, CAMELLIA SINENSIS ROOT EXTRACT, TOCOPHEROL, PHENOXYETHANOL

It’s kind of weird that they call it a gel-to-foam when it’s a ‘non-foaming’ gel cleanser.

In my opinion, it’s works just like an oil cleanser, except that the texture is a gel.

*Update – 19 Jan 2019: I’m not sure how I missed this out, but apart from just a makeup remover, you can use this wet too unlike how I mentioned below. Just put a pump or less on your hand and add some water. When you rub your hands together in a quick motion, you get a foamy cleanser that didn’t dry or make my skin squeaky clean. So just a note! That you can use this as a normal cleanser 🙂 Maybe after the first gel/oil cleansing step of this, you can continue using the same product as a second cleanser. That’s what they probably meant by Gel-to-Foam.

Look & Feel

Innisfree Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam Product

Had to use a white background because these dark green letters and a green-tinted bottled does not go well.

The sentence below the Green Tea Cleansing Gel-to-Foam says:

Enriched with freshly double-squeezed green tea from the Jeju Island to deliver abundant moisture and nourishment deep into your skin.

Does it really deliver abundant moisture and nourishment? Read on 🙂

It comes in a pump bottle like most oil cleansers and had a stopper before I opened it. Which is great in case you like travelling with oil cleansers, this can prevent spillage.

Nothing else to say about it except for the hard to read words because of the colours lol.

Application

As you can see, the texture is definitely less like an oil cleanser.

Super gel-like, and I actually prefer my cleansers to be more like that.

Some oil cleansers slip and slide everywhere and gets pretty messy for me, which I don’t like.

That was also the reason why I ‘left’ oil cleansers for a while haha.

This was me attempting to remove these two lip products.

As mentioned in the photo, I used the MKUP #04 Matte Red Affection (staying power isn’t very good with oily food) and the Pony Effect Stayfit Matte Lip in #On Fleek.

The Pony Effect one is indeed better at holding a little bit of oily food but when it gets removed, you can clearly see the gap on the lips.

The MKUP one goes away slightly better than the Pony Effect one, in the way that it doesn’t look that bad when it’s removed.

Lip products and oily food usually doesn’t go that well together anyway, but this was just a side note for you.

Not sure if the MKUP one left a stain or was it just leftover product not removed properly either but this much of a removal was enough for me as I usually double cleanse after using this product.

Aha. Remember me talking about how they promised that you could skip 2 steps in 1? (In their point no. 2 claims) Well. Nope.

It doesn’t work that well.

This doesn’t leave a film on top of my skin but it doesn’t feel that clean, because I could still see some remaining foundation on my face.

So I go over with my cleansing devices, (either the Clarisonic Mia 2 or the IUIGA one – reviewed) and using the KraveBeauty Matcha Hemp Hydrating Cleanser (reviewed) to make sure all the impurities, especially makeup, is gone.

However, when I was in Korea, I actually tried this there.

I stayed in an Airbnb and so the air conditioner was naturally on because it was humid as hell even at night HAHA.

After washing up, I left the toilet, and omg my face felt so tight. That sudden whoosh of cold air from the air conditioner didn’t make it any better.

Every time I used this, I had to quickly put on my skincare products so I can be relieved from the tightness and dryness.

I have an oily t-zone and normal u-zone, and I possibly have a dehydrated skin that I’ve been trying to hydrate lol.

Having said this, I thought, “What am I going to do with the other bottle that came with the 1+1?”.

I went back to Singapore and continued using it because throwing it away was a no-no for me.

I presume it was the humidity we had in Singapore, and that I don’t use air conditioners, but the tightness and dryness I felt was 90% lesser than when I was in my Korea Airbnb.

They did say that it delivers (abundant) moisture and nourishment deep into the skin but I didn’t feel much about it in that way still.

It was a pretty good gel-to-foam cleanser which didn’t foam up much with water but was able to remove a good 98% of my makeup.

Considering that I will go in with a second cleanse, this was enough for me I guess.

The scent was pretty calming though. It smells like the Green Tea cleanser that Innisfree has in their stores.

Yes

  • Removes makeup pretty well
  • Smells good
  • Didn’t irritate skin
  • Travel-friendly (with a stopper)
  • Recyclable at Innisfree stores (and getting S$1 worth of points back if you’re a member!)
  • Doesn’t leave a film
  • Gel-like consistency, easy to manoeuvre around face

No

  • Not very affordable to me if I’m getting this without a 1+1
  • Can be drying for dryer skins
  • Doesn’t remove makeup entirely and needs a second cleanse

Am I Repurchasing?

Sadly not. I thought this was THE ‘oil’ cleanser I was looking for but I guess it’s not.

I got the Heimish All-Cleansing Balm when I was in Korea too though. Never tried a cleansing balm before so after I’m done with this bottle, I might try that out and see how it goes!

Overall Rating:

3.5 out of 5

Which oil cleansers are you using? Is there one you’d recommend? LET ME KNOW! Thank you 🙂

  1. Would this cleanser be okayas doublecleanse for people who just use sunscreen and no makeup ?

    1. Actually, I think it would be sufficient for sunscreen. Unless the sunscreen has a matte finish or something more long lasting, it should be fine! Otherwise, you should give a light cleanse with Micellar water beforehand (or any other you prefer) 😊
