Review | Manyo Factory Galactomyces Niacin Essence

Manyo Factory Galactomyces Niacin Essence Featured

Welcome back to Review Wednesday!

How long has it been?! I’m sure it’s been more than a month since I did a review.

I stated before on my instagram that I’m all up to date on what I’m using so I won’t be posting reviews for a while.

Now that I’ve used this product for quite a while, I thought I should finally give my review!

Btw, I’m aware that they recently changed their packaging but I double checked the ingredients and it’s the same. 🙂

Update (27 April 2020): Apparently, they came up with a 2.0 version!

I’m unable to find an English version of the site but this is the link to the newer product called Galac Niacin 2.0 Essence: https://www.manyo.co.kr/shop/detail.php?pno=08C5433A60135C32E34F46A71175850C

They also seem to still be selling the current version Galactomy Niacin Essence: https://www.manyo.co.kr/shop/detail.php?pno=33E75FF09DD601BBE69F351039152189

I actually got this because of a recommendation from a fellow kbeauty lover – @skinsoia from instagram!

We started sharing about our holy grails and I gave The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (30 ml) as mine and she gave me this!

Since I already passed my half-finished TO bottle over to my bf for his usage, I was thinking of trying another niacin product.

Except this had galactomyces in it!

Galactomy Niacin Essence – 97% consists of the Galactomyces ferment filtrate, 2% Niacinamide and about 1% Sodium Hyaluronate. The essence effectively restores the skin’s vitality, evens skin tone, fights pigmentation of various kinds, moisturizes, soothes irritated skin, minimizes pore size and prevents inflammation.

Manyo Factory

Galactomyces is the extract of yeast fungus obtained by the fermentation process. Yeast fungus contain large amounts of vitamins B and P, as well as elements such as calcium, iron, zinc, iodine, folic acid. Galactomyces extract intensively moisturizes skin, increases its immunity and protects skin cells from harmful exposure to UV rays, accelerates the synthesis of collagen and glycoproteins, thereby improving the protective mechanisms of the skin. The skin becomes elastic and tight.

Niacinamide – There are many amazing, rock star ingredients for your skin that stand out above the rest. Examples you’ve likely heard of include retinol, vitamin C, potent antioxidants, hyaluronic acid, and ceramides. Another one that should absolutely be added to this list is niacinamide! Also known as vitamin B3, niacinamide is a well-researched, proven multi-tasking ingredient that addresses a surprising range of skin care concerns, no matter your age or skin type! In short it’s one of the genius ingredients for your skin.

Manyo Factory already includes niacinamide in many of our products, but if you have more stubborn or lingering concerns like large pores, wrinkles, post-breakout marks, and uneven skin tone, then an increased percentage of niacinamide might just be the solution you’ve been looking for! That’s why we created one of our most extraordinary products the Galactomy Niacin Essence!

HOW TO USE THE 97% GALACTOMY NIACIN ESSENCE

After using toner, apply a few drops of essence and gently spread on the skin.

It is recommended to use the Galactomy Niacin Essence in the morning and evening:

  • for dry/very dry skin: 6-7 drops
  • for normal/oily skin: 4-5 drops (the amount that I personally use)

Let’s see how I feel about this. (Oh and btw, you can even mix it in with your moisturiser)

Look & Feel

The bottle is actually made of glass, along with the dropper in it.

There were a few times when I ALMOST dropped the bottle. It was kind of bulky but since they changed the packaging, it isn’t too much of a problem now!

I did drop the dropper (punny) once and it thankfully didn’t break.

Other than the fragility of this, I don’t find it too much of a problem. I appreciate the fact that I can look through to see how much I have left.

If you’re interested to see their latest packaging, you may check it here on their website: https://www.manyo.co.kr/shop/detail.php?pno=33E75FF09DD601BBE69F351039152189

It reminds of me of The Ordinary packaging though.

If you can read Korean and are interested in the contents of the bottle’s packaging:

Application

The texture looks like water, but it feels a little more slimy. Not off-putting, I’m just describing it.

This also smells like 1% chlorine lol, a hint of the swimming pool. Not too sure why. If you do know, please tell me!

As its viscosity is almost like water, it absorbs pretty quickly too. I won’t feel like my face is too drenched to layer something on top. I usually add on the Benton Goodbye Redness Centella Gel over followed by the Joan’s NEOGEN vita duo day and night cream (to be reviewed soon!).

There are also times when I like to use the SANA Namerakahonpo Emulsion NA to finish off my routine when I find the NEOGEN one insufficient.

The toner I used with this was the Mamonde Chamomile Pure Toner, which I finished. And liked it for the most part because of how gentle and simple it was. It has only 6 ingredients, btw!

Using a new toner now, maybe you could follow me on Instagram to keep a lookout on my new toner – I’ve already released it there.

Here is my before and after (3.5 months apart):

Do excuse the lighting. Sometimes when my face gets too red, the camera catches onto it and the colour changes lol.

I started on 15 January and it’s been 3.5 months. I started using it on alternate days the first 2 weeks or so.

Didn’t notice much so I changed it to twice a day which they recommended.

I never experienced any side effects from using it twice a day, every day.

Do note that the period-after-opening is 6 months hence it isn’t really a waste to use it twice a day because you have to or you’ll really waste it when it’s past its PAO.

It’s been 3.5 months and this is all I have left!

Whether or not this really worked, it’s hard to tell because the changes are slow and subtle.

According to their website (this was linked to their English site that I cannot find as of 27 April 2020), these are the changes people felt after 30 days of usage:

Image is not mine.

The first month or so however, I did notice my skin looking slightly brighter.

Around the end of the second month, my skin felt smoother, acne isn’t appearing as frequent. Even when they appeared, they disappeared soon after. Though I do get the random bouts of pesky pimples that leave a scar.

I’m not so sure if it did help with my blackheads. They come and go whenever they want. I still feel like the CNP Invisible Peeling Booster showed me the best results for my blackheads – albeit on the expensive side for me.

One thing I did realise was that this wasn’t holy grail status to me. For the price that I pay, (if you count me paying the full S$29 instead of S$15 during sales) it didn’t show me the results that I expect from it.

To summarise my thoughts, here’s the TL;DR version.

Yes

  • Absorbs quickly
  • Gentle for every day use
  • Does not roll under makeup
  • Ease of availability
  • See-through glass
  • Did make my skin seem a little brighter after the 1 month mark – hard to capture on the phone camera
  • Did not break me out
  • No tingling or irritation experienced
  • Makes skin smooth overtime

No

  • Bulky packaging (might lose grip) – packaging improved by company
  • Pretty expensive without sales
  • Results are not super obvious
  • Slight Chlorine smell
  • PAO is 6 months – need consistent use

Am I Repurchasing?

Mmm. I actually expected this to really give me glowing and smooth skin.

While it did not give me that, I do feel it brightened up my skin overtime which is a good thing.

However, I might choose my holy grail The Ordinary over this because I see more effects of scars fading + brightening through that product.

So nope, not repurchasing!

    1. Hi Siti!

I mentioned in the blog post that they have recently changed the product packaging. But don’t worry, I checked while doing the post that the ingredients are the same! They just changed the name and packaging.

      Hope that answers your question!
