Happy Wednesday everyone! Hope everything has been fine for you.
With the Coronavirus going around, and possible recession, I only hope things will pass asap and we can all go back to our normal lives.
Anyway, let’s get back to the main point of this post, shall we?
I was kind of excited to start yet another Vitamin C photo-taking journey for my review.
Especially so after my The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% review, where I saw quite a big improvement in my skin in less than 2 months.

For this product, here’s a brief story; I started using this only at night from 19 December. However, in the before and after photos below, you will notice that the first ‘Before’ picture is on 28 December, 9 days after. That is because there wasn’t much of a difference so I omitted my first day photo.
Keeping that in mind, my mid January photo was also omitted because there wasn’t much of a difference from the prior one ☝. Hence, the jump from 1 January to 29 February.
I will elaborate more later on the other photos, let’s continue with the review!
What: Some By Mi Galactomyces Pure Vitamin C Glow Serum
Price: ~S$15 (depending on where you buy it, got mine from a Shopee seller)
Weight: 30 ml / 1.01 fl. oz.
Period-After-Opening: 6 months (most likely, as they did not state)
Read my previous review: Review | Mamonde Ceramide Light Cream
This product holds 75% of Galactomyces ferment filtrate (claims to improve the skin’s resilience and vitality) and 3% of Pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid, 30,000 ppm).
Galactomyces did not seem to have a big improvement on my scars previously but it seemed to help reduce acne for me during the period I was using it.
Acne was pretty minimal except for when my period was near – even then, pimples were not too problematic and disappeared soon.

Since this had Galactomyces and Pure Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) in it, I can’t not try hahaha.
This product doesn’t only have Pure Vitamin C. in it – In fact, it also has 10 vitamins in total. (Shown in below picture)
Some of you might know that Pure Vitamin C can be hard to formulate and stay stable in products. According to Some By Mi, this is what they do to reduce that:
Other key ingredients:
Niacinamide (also Vitamin B3) and Adenosine helps in brightening and anti-wrinkles respectively.
Niacinamide worked well for me – you can check out my The Ordinary Niacinamide review for my before and after too!

Hard for me to give a review on the anti-wrinkle factor since I do not have wrinkles yet LOL. Yet is the keyword.
Look & Feel
This came in a dark-coloured glass bottle with a dropper. The packaging was slightly different from other dropper products, this had a stopper that forces a slow removal of the dropper FROM the bottle and a slow yet safe insertion back into the bottle.
Sounds like a weird description but I presume it is to protect the glass dropper and prevent any excess serum from leaking out.
I think it was a great idea from Some By Mi! Aside from that, no complaints from me.
Bottle is sturdy and the dark-coloured bottle is to slow the oxidisation of the Vitamin C.
Application
Note: it’s been slightly more than 2 months since I started on this and my product has already oxidised a little into a yellowish serum. It started out a light yellow but a pity that I didn’t take a prior picture before this review.
It may lose a bit of its efficacy but overall, in this 2.5 months plus period, I still saw results.
Uploaded this unlisted video on YouTube for you guys to see the consistency – click below!
It’s a very thin consistency and smells like blood orange, think oranges but with a deeper and sharp citrusy scent.
At least that’s how it smelled to me! No issues with the scent and the finishing of the serum.
The product itself is definitely not sticky on the face or hands.
Despite that, I still recommend you to wash your hands after using it before putting your moisturiser (especially if it’s a tub / jar moisturiser!!!).
You may wait up to 15 minutes for the Vitamin C to fully absorb before moving on to moisturiser for full efficacy.
But during this journey, I did not wait that long. At most, it was just 3 minutes before the moisturiser step for me and I still could see improvements. It’s really up to you!
If you’re not in a rush, you can wait longer than me.
My simple night routine was basically like this:
Acwell Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner -> this serum (3 drops total, forehead, and both cheeks) -> moisturiser (KraveBeauty Great Barrier Relief Serum or Mamonde Ceramide Light Cream – depending on the day)

The day routine excludes this serum. Somehow, I prefer to use Vitamin C in my night routines only.
Yet I still achieved the results below in a span of 2.5 months plus!
My skin was relatively less red. Acne scars improved greatly. Skin texture might have improved slightly too.
Photos were taken after moisturiser at night, except for the last one taken in the day.
In the first row, I burst a pimple on my right cheek ~3 days prior. You may use that as a gauge to see the difference compared to my last row which was just taken yesterday 🙂 .
So let’s get to our Pros and Cons!
Oh, P.S. I also use two drops of this with my body moisturiser and apply them to my legs as I have some ingrown hair scars and what not. I can’t tell if the moisturiser helped more but just sharing how you could incorporate it for brightening if it does not work for your face!
I use the ILLIYOON Ceramide Ato Lotion to mix with this for my night body moisturiser.

Be sure to apply sunscreen the next day though. I use a body moisturiser with SPF 30.
Yes
- Lightweight
- Non-irritating / did not break me out
- Citrusy scent
- Reduced acne scars and brighten skin tone
- Did not make my skin tingle from Day 1
No
- Oxidised quicker than expected.
- May be expensive considering where you buy them from
Am I Repurchasing?
If I do feel like my acne is giving me lots of scars, I may go back to this or purchase my HG The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%.
