This is probably an unsuspecting thoughtful Thursday. Maybe you were looking forward to my next review? Next finance post?
Anyway, if today’s topic intrigued you, keep on reading!
P.S. if you love working for a company or someone else, that’s great! I personally don’t, and this post is about it. Yeah, it may seem like I’m complaining but today is Thoughtful Thursday! No harm sharing some thoughts.
I might be all over the place here though, because I’m as unsure as this post title sounds.
Like what this title means, I’m really facing a wall of starting a small (but hopefully successful) business or continuing my 9 – 5 day job. (I wouldn’t say my working hours are exactly 9 – 5, it starts a little earlier and ends a little later.)
.
.
.
… please note that the next line took 5 minutes to think.
I am so lost that I don’t even know where or how to begin lol. Let’s start from thoughts I had when I was younger.
Firstly, I have always wanted to be a boss. From young, I knew everyone needed to work. The difference is only whether it is working for someone or for your own company.
I have always dreaded working a fixed 9 – 5 at the expense of taking up half of your life. It really didn’t make sense for me to do it till retirement or even till my death.

Weekends were never enough. It’s funny because we, humans, will always want more. But what they didn’t teach us more of was that it is normal to want more. It’s not a sin or something you should feel guilty about.
During my internship days, I couldn’t even fathom working like that for as long as I live. But, could anyone?
Secondly, I’m 25 this year and if according to the average life expectancy (83.3) in Singapore, it means that I only have 58.3 years left to try.
I say try because the first business is not very likely to succeed. This is not to poke my own bubble, but to set a slight possibility and to have a backup plan. If not now, then when?
Funny how I’m saying that when I’m still sitting on the fence ????.
Last but not least, financial stability. As long as I’m working at my current job, I believe I can survive. However, if I were to leave my job to pursue my small business full-time, will I be able to weather the storm?
I might eventually run out of money, I might not be able to continue my monthly investments, I might not even gain a profit on top of my sales for the first year.
Well of course, my current plan isn’t to go in head first YET. I’ll definitely be starting on a small scale to see if it’s feasible and maybe we’ll build up from there!
If there is no traction or little demand, then I will probably come up with another business idea. Or continue working at this day job. We’ll see how things turn out.
You may be curious to know what is it that I want to start but I’m not ready to share it till I begin haha.
Btw, it’s not related to my blog. I will still post over here though. I think I am still willing to invest a few hundred bucks to keep this blog running for a few more years.
Anyway, any of you reading has a similar idea like me?
You want to start a business of your own or find financial freedom in some other way.
Honestly, starting a business does not eventually equate to financial freedom. Investing intelligently to reach financial freedom also isn’t a surefire way either.
But if you don’t begin at all, who will even know of its success or failure?
If you’ve reached this paragraph, kudos to you! Typing all these down also helped to affirm some of my thoughts as well as what I really want for my happiness and life.
Passion, alone, obviously can’t feed you. We still need to take into consideration all the factors and possibilities to begin this.
As cliche as it sounds,

Loving this post ❤️ Really insightful and relateable to all millenials. I have been interested in investing since I turned 20 and didn’t know where to start. I guess putting money aside for pension is a form of investment. But always wanted to know more about different sources of income to be able to reach financial freedom same as you. Would love to know more about what works for others and what lessons they can share. Thanks for sharing this. Would love to hear more about your journey.

Anyone who has ever thought of starting their own business has had these dilemmas. So, don’t worry, you’re not alone^^ But it’s better to give it a try anyway despite the fear of failure. Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t work right away and keep working at it. Best of luck 🙂
Aww thank you for the encouragement, lovely ☺️ I really appreciate it. I will at least try my best in what I’m going to do ????????????
Another employment contract has just come to an end for me and I’ve managed to secure another job but my real goal it to be a full time writer and work for nobody but myself. I know that takes time so in the mean time I’m trying to find a 9-5 that isn’t nine to five and gives me the flexibility and freedom I need to be work on my side hustle. It’s so draining working such blah jobs when they don’t help you towards the ‘big picture’! Hang in there gal, we will get there in the end!
Yes, Ellie! You said it! I really want flexibility in my job and every day at work just reminds me how much it is lacking of that.
I know what you mean! Haha I hope we do get there eventually. All the best to your goals! ????????
