Review | The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream

The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream Featured

Can I introduce to you my favourite lip cream of all times?!

It’s The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream, as the title says.

They also have two other scents, in Honey and Mango.

I have currently used up 3 tubes of this. I’m on my 3rd tube and it seems they have renewed the packaging!

It was previously under the Lovely Me:Ex name, if you visit TFS, you’d know what I’m talking about haha.

I actually do like the new packaging now but what really matters was the actual product.

Did it change? How do I feel about it after checking the ingredients?

Let’s begin this review!

Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, Diisostearyl Malate, Polybutene, Microcrystalline Wax, Paraffin, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Silica Silylate, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Tocopherol, Polyethylene, Polyglyceryl-2, Triisosterate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Parfum/Fragrance, Yellow 5 Lake (CI 19140)

No idea why the product isn’t on the international TFS website but here’s the one in the Korean website:

They call the last one Mango Butter and I’ve tried the previous packaging’s mango scent and the smell is a bit too strong so I prefer the Shea Butter one.

Did not try the Honey one though.

I got Shea Butter because I’ve seen many Korean Youtubers expressing their love for it.

One of them was KyungSun! She calls it her 인생 립밤 (in-saeng lip-bam) which roughly means a lip balm that she needs in her life and cannot live without.

Well, I obviously have to try right? I’ve always had dry and crackly lips because I didn’t like reaching out for water lol.

But ever since I used this, I’ve never had crackly dead skin on my lips that I have to reach out to peel.

I used to do that a lot and thinking back now, I really stopped because I didn’t need to do it already.

Look & Feel

The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream Product

This comes in a normal lip balm/cream tube where you squeeze it and apply directly onto your lips. Nothing too special.

The brown one is the older version, the beige one is the new version. Or rather packaging.

Application

The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream Application

This is taken from my IG post of it and you can see it’s a pretty thick formula. It’s not like Vaseline, I actually don’t like Vaseline if I have to be honest.

You don’t even need much for your lips and the amount I applied on that tray there can probably be used in 3 different times lol.

It feels like a moisturising barrier for your lips and I like using it as a overnight lip care.

Especially when I am going to be using a matte lip product the next day.

When morning comes, you can just rub this product off with water as you shower and when you come out, your lips will be thoroughly moisturised and ready for any lip product! Matte or glossy.

Another reason why I like using it only at night is due to the fact that this leaves a white weird looking goo or slime around your lips after a few hours.

It’s not very pretty looking so if I have to go out with it, I put a really small amount, just enough, and that decreases the amount of white stuff appearing.

I try not to eat it too because the ingredients are not exactly good.

Honestly, I never read the ingredients for this because I never felt the need to.

Now that I’ve seen the ingredients…

The Face Shop Shea Butter Lip Care Cream Ingredients

There is a pretty big possibility that I might switch to another lip balm that doesn’t have Petrolatum, Mineral Oil or even Parfum and Colourings.

The Shea Butter ingredient is somewhere in the middle of the ingredients list and they said that this lip cream contains 100 ppm (parts per million contribution) of Shea Butter.

That sounds okay to me but the other dubious ingredients are really quite meh and I don’t like them.

Although nothing has happened to me so far, if I can find an alternative, I would.

Yes

  • Keeps my lips soft and moisturised
  • Pretty lasting
  • Affordable
  • Long shelf life

No

  • Don’t like the ingredients
  • Leaves a white goo or slime on lip’s inner corners

Am I Repurchasing?

Nope, I’m afraid not. Ah, and I thought I found a holy grail. I really liked it while it lasted. But knowing now that there is Petrolatum (though only top grade ones are used in cosmetics) and Mineral Oil, I don’t really like the sound of it.

I just have to finish using it or give it to someone.

Overall Rating:

3 out of 5

What are your thoughts on Petrolatum or Mineral Oil in products like these? Do you have any recommendation for a lip balm? Please let me know!!!
