Isn’t time passing too quickly? It’s yet another Tuesday and 2.5 months till the end of 2018!
If you have a few minutes to spend, let me take you around this area in Seoul!
Bukchon Hanok VIllage (북촌한옥마을) is literally North Village (Buk Chon) Traditional Houses (Han Ok) Town (Ma Eul).
In current modern day, this area in Seoul houses almost 900 traditional houses like the ones I will show you today.
It’s a pretty rare sight if you’re not in the area because everywhere is becoming more technologically advanced and urban.
Also, there’s a twist to this place and I gave some warnings (if I might say) below so do read on!
Without further ado, let’s view some images!
It was a place that was kind of hard to locate.
My boyfriend and I were trying to follow directions on the streets along with using our Naver Map and we somehow landed in the very centre lol.
Btw, Google map doesn’t really work there. Sometimes it’s a walking distance but they tell you to take the bus because it’s not possible to ‘walk’.
So use the Naver App instead as it is available in English, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
I would suggest stopping at Anguk Station to get to that area. If you use the map, it’ll be easy to get there.
Anyways, you’d have to climb quite a bit of stairs and the area there isn’t so flat. Bumps and hills here and there.
Was greeted by this view when we walked for a bit more. Spot the traditional houses at the corner?
Here’s how it looks like up close. It’s pretty surreal that people actually live in these houses.
You know when people ask, “Which generation or era would you like to go back to if you had a chance?”.
I’d usually say this era when people wielded swords and live in these houses.
Lol, it’s probably really dangerous but there’s something about that era that makes me like it.
How about you?
It was really hot then. I was sweating profusely. Hiding from the sun in the shadows didn’t really help as the weather was really humid too.
There were many tourists taking pictures with the houses and landscape as their background too. I’d have done it if not for the weather lol.
And then, I came across banners like these.
It’s not anything good actually.
It means along the lines of “To the tourists who come here in the morning, the residents here would love to rest”.
As this place has become a tourist attraction, many people have been coming.
When there are a lot of people, noises and lots of chattering would be happening and it seems like it’s been bothering the residents living there.
This one says something more blunt.
It means “The residents of the Bukchon Hanok Village also wishes to live like a human”.
These notices definitely go to show how much of their lives are interrupted because it is a tourist attraction.
So if you ever wish to come here for some pictures, do make sure that you’re not making too much noise and be aware that you’re right beside a house with people inside.
Honestly, I cannot really imagine living in a place like this where I hear people talk everyday in the morning.
As it’s a popular place, tourists come early in the morning and this disrupts the residents’ sleep too.
Btw, this place is really mainly for sightseeing and they even have a museum somewhere in the area.
This is a glimpse of two places I went, and honestly, I don’t remember where they were because I stumbled upon them by accident hehe.
There’s something so grand about these houses.
Ending the post with a cute dog outside a shop on our way out of the place 🙂
